Ben McAdoo has been named the new coach of the New York Giants a little more than a week after Tom Coughlin stepped down after 12 seasons in charge.
The 38-year-old McAdoo, who has been the Giants offensive coordinator the past two seasons, will formally be introduced at a news conference on Friday morning, eastern standard time.
McAdoo was interviewed by team president John Mara and general manager Jerry Reese last week before meeting team chairman Steve Tisch and treasurer Jonathan Tisch.
McAdoo said: "I'm honored. It has been a privilege to work and learn under coach Coughlin. I have been preparing for this moment my entire professional life."
Mara and Reese interviewed five other candidates before choosing McAdoo, who is now the NFL's second youngest head coach.
Mara said: "Ben is an outstanding young coach who has great experience and has done a good job as our offensive coordinator these past two years. We were all impressed with his energy, his enthusiasm, his vision and his desire.
"Some have suggested he may not be ready, and as I said last week, we want a coach who feels like he has something to prove."
McAdoo joined the NFL in 2004 as an offensive quality control assistant with the New Orleans Saints, spent a year with the 49ers the following season and then joined the Green Bay Packers for the next eight seasons, initially working with the tight ends before spending the final two years of his tenure as Aaron Rodgers' quarterback coach.
The Giants hired him in 2014 to replace Kevin Gilbride and his version of the West Coast offence and the addition of Odell Beckham Jr have helped revive the offence.
McAdoo takes over a team that has missed out on the play-offs for the past four seasons.
