The Rock’s mammoth work-out routine on the set of Ballers has been revealed by co-star Victor Cruz.

Ballers, about an agent who guides college football players through the early days of their NFL careers, returns for a second series on Sky Atlantic from July 26.

Hollywood star and ex-WWE wrestler Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, is the main character and his notorious exercise regime was preserved throughout filming, according to the New York Giants' Cruz who co-starred during the first series.

"In his trailer, he's got a full weight room," Cruz exclusively told Sky Sports. "He's doing work-outs and lifts in between takes. He's stronger in person than he is on TV!

"He was an immediate fan of football, having played at the University of Miami. In college he was pretty good. He would definitely have held his own.

"He's so cool. He's The Rock to me - unless you're on first-name basis with him, he's The Rock."

Cruz, the wide receiver who missed the entire 2015 season due to injury, has insisted that the storylines in Ballers mirror the challenges that young NFL players face.

"The first season was a lot of fun," he said. "The biggest thing is that it's authentic - a lot of the storylines that you see happening throughout football are really depicted in that show.

"In the grand scheme of things, they're the kind of problems we face - with agents, financial advisors, different teams, the free agency process. All those things are real."
