The Miami Dolphins have confirmed the signing of free agent running-back Arian Foster.

Foster is reported to have signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins, who lost their No 1 running-back Lamar Miller to the Houston Texans, the team Foster represented for the last seven seasons.

He had visited the Dolphins over the weekend and the team confirmed on Twitter on Monday that a deal had been finalised, picturing Foster signing his contract.

The 29-year-old has struggled with injury over the last three years, playing in only 25 of the last 48 regular-season games for the Texans.

He is expected to battle London-born Jay Ajayi for the starting role in Miami, with inexperienced Ajayi only entering his second season in the NFL.

Ajayi, a fifth-round draft pick out of Boise State in 2015, rushed for 187 yards on only 49 carries in limited playing time behind Miller last year.

Foster is closing on 6,500 rushing yards in his career and he has scored 54 touchdowns since being picked up as an undrafted free agent by the Texans in 2009. Both of those numbers are Texans franchise records.
