Quarterback Tom Brady missed New England Patriots' pre-season match against Chicago Bears after reportedly cutting his thumb.
The 39-year-old cut his thumb on a pair of scissors prior to the game at Gillette Stadium and left shortly afterwards.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick refused to confirm the injury, but Brady's agent, Don Yee, told NFL Media: "An accident occurred and Tom will be okay in time."
Jimmy Garoppolo started in place of Brady as the Patriots got their pre-season campaign off to a winning start, defeating the Bears 23-22 in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Brady will miss the Patriots first four matches of the new season while he serves his 'deflate-gate' suspension.
He will be unavailable for the games against Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills.
Brady could make his NFL return against Cleveland Browns on October 9.
