Los Angeles Rams player Robert Quinn is in a stable condition in hospital with a non-football injury, the NFL team announced on Monday.

The defensive end has been living with a brain tumour for a number of years, a condition that caused intense headaches until doctors drained excess fluid from his skull when he was a teenager.

However Rams coach Jeff Fisher said he thought it was "highly unlikely" that Quinn's current condition was related to the tumour, adding that "things look encouraging".

The 26-year-old has check-ups on the condition twice a year.
