London 2012 Olympian Lawrence Okoye has once again failed to make an active NFL roster after being released by the Miami Dolphins.

The 25-year-old, who is still the British record holder in the discus, is yet to play a competitive match in the NFL after switching to the sport in 2013, having made the Olympic final on home soil the previous year.

Okoye was an American football novice at that point, though his rare physical traits have seen six teams - the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Dolphins - all run the rule over him at various points over the past four years.

Yet none of those half-a-dozen franchises have included Okoye on their final 53-man rosters, with the Dolphins the latest to waive him during their last round of cuts.

Okoye had deferred a place at Oxford University to study law when chasing his NFL dream, and the deadline to take up that offer was this year.

Speaking back in June, Okoye had said it was "unlikely" he would take it up due to his chosen career path.
