The wide receiver renews his contract

Greg Jennings, wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers, has had his contract extended in a $27million deal. The 25-year-old revealed he did not have to boycott the NFL team's offseason programme or mandatory training camp to get it. "We didn't feel like there was any need for me to sit out and choose not to participate. That was not the route I wanted to go." Jennings said after the team formally announced the deal. Jennings apparently collected $16m in guaranteed money on the extension, which expands his contract by three years. In 2009, the final year of the first professional deal he signed with Green Bay, he was expected to receive a $535,000 base salary. Last year, Jennings, who collected 80 receptions for 1,292 yards and nine touchdowns, was an NFC Pro Bowl first alternate behind Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona's Anquan Boldin, Carolina's Steve Smith and Atlanta's Roddy White. Following the 2012 season Jennings will be an unhampered free agent again and the extension could reportedly be worth as much as $31m if Jennings plays at Pro Bowl level.
