Temporary head coach gets job on a permanent basis

The Minnesota Vikings confirmed on Monday that Leslie Frazier is to stay on as their permanent head coach. Frazier had performed the role in a temporary capacity following the sacking of Brad Childress with six games of the regular season remaining. Although his record was an unspectacular 3-3, the performances of the team improved during his reign despite problems at quarterback where Brett Favre struggled and was then injured before announcing his retirement. "We are thrilled that Leslie Frazier will continue to lead this football team," Vikings Owner Zygi Wilf said in a statement. "Our players and entire organization have great respect for Leslie. He has a vast knowledge of the game, both as a former player and as a coach, and he has a terrific way with those who play for him and work with him. "We are very fortunate to have him as our head coach and look forward to many successful years together." The Vikings also won twice on the road under Frazier after having lost their previous nine consecutive away games. He was defensive co-ordinator under Childress and has previously worked at Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Philadelphia. As a player, Frazier was a cornerback/safety for the Chicago Bears team that won the Super Bowl at the end of the 1985 season.
