Jaguars missed out on play-offs after losing last three games

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver has announced that Jack Del Rio will remain as the team's head coach. The Jaguars missed out on winning the AFC South when they finished the season with three straight losses, meaning they ended up with an 8-8 record. It is not the first time the team have slumped in the closing stages of a campaign - they lost four on the bounce the previous year - and the franchise have now not reached the play-offs since 2007. However, after a meeting between the pair on Monday, Weaver has decided to retain Del Rio for the final year of his contract, albeit with an ultimatum. "Next year, we will be in the play-offs. I don't think there's any doubt about it," the owner said in a press conference. Del Rio, who is the first coach since the NFL merger in 1970 to lead the same team for eight years without capturing a division title, has a 66-65 record during his time in charge. He was also calling the defensive plays but Weaver has decided he will give up that responsibility to defensive coordinator Mel Tucker.
