New England have agreed trades for Albert Haynesworth and Chad Ochocinco.
Redskins accept fifth-round pick for expensive mistake
The New England Patriots have brought in defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth from the Washington Redskins.
The Patriots have sent a fifth-round pick in the 2013 draft to Washington in exchange for the two-time Pro Bowler.
Haynesworth endured two unsuccessful seasons with the Redskins after signing a $100 million, seven-year contract as a free agent in 2009.
Plagued by legal problems off the field, he played just 20 games and recorded 6.5 sacks during his time in Washington.
He was suspended for the final four matches of last season after a feud with head coach Mike Shanahan.
The 30-year-old, who made his name as a disruptive presence in the interior line during seven seasons with the Tennessee Titans, now has the chance to rebuild his career in New England, where head coach Bill Belichick - like Shanahan a multiple Super Bowl winner - has a record of reviving the careers of troubled talents.
Corey Dillon and Randy Moss both rediscovered their best form after buying into Belichick's way of working and he will be hoping to repeat the same trick with Haynesworth.
The Patriots have also reportedly agreed a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals for outspoken wide receiver Chad Ochocinco.
According to
ESPN, the Bengals will receive two draft picks, a fifth-rounder in 2012 and a sixth-rounder the following year, for six-time Pro Bowler Ochocinco, who has accepted a restructured three-year contract.
