Former Jets player moves to rival franchise, Carter also signs up
The New England Patriots have confirmed the signings of former New York Jets star Shaun Ellis and fellow veteran defensive end Andre Carter.
Ellis, who has twice been selected for the Pro Bowl, makes the move after spending 11 seasons at AFC East rivals the Jets.
He recorded two sacks against the Patriots during the Jets' shock 28-21 play-off victory at Gillette Stadium last season.
Carter, who like Ellis is a former first-round draft pick, has spent 10 seasons in the NFL playing first for the San Francisco 49ers and then the Washington Redskins.
Details of the contracts have not been released, but Ellis has reportedly joined on a one-year deal.
The pair join fellow defensive line free agent Albert Haynesworth in New England as the Patriots look set to switch to a 4-3 defence.
