The Jacksonville Jaguars have parted company with head coach Jack Del Rio after nearly nine seasons with the franchise.

Owner Weaver announces he is selling the franchise

The Jacksonville Jaguars have parted company with head coach Jack Del Rio. The Jaguars have compiled a 3-8 record so far this season with their latest defeat coming at home to AFC South rivals Houston on Sunday. Del Rio took over from Tom Coughlin in 2003 and departs with a 68-71 overall record - the Jaguars last posted a winning season in 2007 and had never won their division during his tenure. Defensive co-ordinator Mel Tucker, who is in his third season in Jacksonville, has been named interim head coach. Meanwhile, general manager Gene Smith has been given a contract extension. "It's bittersweet but it's positive all around," owner Wayne Weaver said. "I felt it was unfair to leave Jack twisting in the wind. The decision had been made. I felt it was the right move for the team. "I told Jack I appreciated the effort he has given in the past nine years but we deserved better and the community deserved better." Weaver, who has been the majority owner since the team's inception, also announced that he plans to sell the franchise to Shad Khan.
