Peyton Manning threw two interceptions as his home debut for the Denver Broncos ended in a 30-10 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks.
Manning completed 16 of his 23 pass attempts for 177 yards as he played the entire first half, helping the Broncos take a 10-9 at the interval.
However, more importantly, the former Indianapolis Colts quarterback, who missed all of last season after having four operations on his neck, bounced back up after taking a hit from Seahawks defensive end Bruce Irvin.
Another quarterback, Seattle's Russell Wilson, was the story of the second half, the rookie throwing for 155 yards and two touchdowns to help the visitors score 21 points without reply.
Recovery
San Diego overturned a 10-0 half-time deficit to beat the
Dallas Cowboys 28-20, back-up Chargers quarterback Charlie Whitehurst leading the recovery with two touchdown passes.
Kirk Cousins threw for three touchdowns and 264 yards, but it still wasn't enough to prevent the
Washington Redskins going down 33-31 to the
Chicago Bears.
Robbie Gould kicked a 57-yard field goal in the final minute to clinch a see-saw contest in favour of the Bears, who were without linebacker Brian Urlacher after he underwent minor knee surgery during the week.
Both Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow struggled for the
New York Jets in a 26-3 defeat at the hands of the
New York Giants, the reigning Super Bowl champions managing seven sacks in total.
Sam Bradford threw touchdown passes on
St Louis' opening two drives as the Rams recorded a 31-17 triumph over the
Kansas City Chiefs.
The quarterback connected on scoring throws of 23 and eight yards to Lance Kendricks and Danny Amendola respectively, before the Rams added furthers TDs on the ground through Isaiah Pead and Daryl Richardson.
Trindon Holliday had his second special teams touchdown in as many weeks to help the
Houston Texans overcome the
San Francisco 49ers by a 20-9 scoreline.
Holliday, a sixth-round draft pick in 2010, returned a punt 87 yards to the end zone, in the fourth quarter. All of the 49ers' points came from the boot of David Akers.
