Foles proves adequate replacement, throwing two TD passes
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was forced to leave a pre-season game early for a second successive week through injury.
Vick was hurt by a hard hit by New England's Jermaine Cunningham in the first quarter of Phialdelphia's 27-17 win over the Patriots on Monday night.
The 32-year-old, who is entering his fourth season with the franchise, underwent X-rays on his ribs and although they showed no break, he did not return to the field.
"We chose not to bring him back in. He was sore," Eagles coach Andy Reid said.
Vick suffered a thumb injury in Philadelphia's opening pre-season outing against the Pittsburgh Steelers, though again X-rays showed he suffered no serious damage and he started against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium.
He was replaced after just six plays by Nick Foles, who duly threw two touchdown passes - both to Clay Harbor - to lead the Eagles to victory.
