The Arizona Cardinals will have to do without Darnell Dockett for the entire NFL season after the defensive tackle suffered a serious knee injury.

Dockett tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a practice session at the University of Phoenix Stadium on Monday and will now undergo surgery.

The 33-year-old - a three-time Pro Bowler - was preparing for his 11th season in the NFL, all with the Cardinals.

"Thank you all for your support & get well wishes. I really do appreciate it. This will be a tough road to recovery but I been through worst," Dockett tweeted.

Dockett has previously missed just two games in his career; he had 59 tackles and 4.5 sacks last year for Arizona to help the franchise post a 10-6 record, though they still missed out on the playoffs.

The Cardinals begin their campaign against the San Diego Chargers on Monday September 8.
