Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles on Sunday.

The 11-year veteran suffered the injury during the second quarter of Washington's 37-34 loss at the hands of NFC East rivals Philadelphia.

Coach Jay Gruden said rookie Bashaud Breeland would most likely step into Hall's starting role, although Tracy Porter, who is yet to play this season because of hamstring trouble, could be back on the field soon.

Hall is unsure when he will have surgery to repair the injury and admitted it was going to be tough for him to get back to his best as he closes on his 31st birthday in November.

"I’m not a spring chicken, so I got to make sure I get it done the right way,” Hall said. “I’ve got to be as patient with it as possible, attack this rehab and get back out there on the field.

“I just thought I got stepped on. I didn’t know instantly. I didn’t think much of it. I thought I had a calf strain or something.”

Hall has already reached out to NBA legend Kobe Bryant for his thoughts on recovering from such a serious injury.

“He was probably the most notable guy that I remember having an Achilles injury and coming back,” Hall added.

“I talked to him for a long time about it and he said the same thing our trainer said which is good. I’m getting the same information, just to be patient with it.”

“This being injured thing is kind of new for me. I’m going to heed the advice of all these people, and I’m going to listen to them and I’m going to come back better.”

Sunday's game against the Eagles also cost the Redskins the services of safety James Ihenacho for the season - he suffered a left foot fracture while covering a kick-off.
