NFL: Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel goes into rehab

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has entered a rehabilitation clinic, his team have confirmed.

The former Heisman Trophy winner’s off-field lifestyle, much documented on social media, has landed him trouble since he was drafted by the Browns in May.

And following a difficult rookie season, he has entered rehab.

His advisor Brad Beckworth said: "Johnny knows there are areas he needs to improve on to help him be a better family member, friend and teammate, so he decided to take this step in his life during the offseason.

Browns general manager Ray Farmer said: "Our players' health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns.

"We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player."

Browns wide receiver Andrew Hawkins tweeted: "Much love and support to my brother Johnny. Proud of him, big step. Football is secondary. God Bless!"

Basketball great LeBron James, a friend of Manziel, added: "I haven't talked to him. As a friend I support him. I want him to get better. As friends and family we all believe in him and this is a good step if this is the route he's going to take."

Manziel was known as ‘Johnny Football’ during his time at Texas A&M. But his love of partying followed him into pro football, with photographs of him swigging bottles of champagne during visits to Las Vegas going viral on social media.
