Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula is confident that new signing Richie Incognito has put his past troubles behind him.

The 31-year-old former Miami Dolphins guard has not played since he was suspended in 2013 following a high-profile bullying scandal involving Jonathan Martin, an ex-teammate.

Martin sparked a probe after voluntarily leaving Miami, claiming he had been subjected to harassment, and Incognito was suspended for the last eight games of the season.

But Buffalo have offered an NFL return to Incognito, who had a short spell with the Bills in 2009, and Pegula believes the new recruit is a changed man.

"We are convinced that Richie is prepared to move forward and has and will continue to take the necessary steps to improve himself as a person and a teammate," he said in a statement.

"Following discussion with the rest of the coaching staff, we as an organization will provide him with the opportunity to do so."

The 10th-year guard has started all of his 102 career games, earning Pro Bowl recognition in 2012 while playing for Miami.
