The Dallas Cowboys have signed talented offensive lineman La'el Collins, who went unselected at last week's NFL Draft.

Collins, who played collegiate football at LSU, was widely expected to be a first round pick in Chicago last Thursday until he was sought for questioning over a homicide in Louisiana.

The 21-year-old was not a suspect in the murder of Brittany Mills, who previously had a relationship with Collins, but the stigma of an investigation hanging over him meant all 32 franchises passed on selecting him in the seven round draft.

Collins would have been a multi-millionaire had a team selected him in the first round, but ESPN report his three-year fully guaranteed deal will pay him just over $1.6m - he will be able to renegotiate after two years. He is also receiving a signing bonus of $21,000.

He could well move straight into the Cowboys starting front-line, possibly ahead of Ronald Leary at left guard.
