The New England Patriots have agreed a four-year deal with kicker Stephen Gostkowski worth $17.2m.
Gostkowski was designated as the team’s franchise player in March and the Patriots had until 9pm BST on Wednesday to agree a long-term deal.
The 31-year-old was drafted by the Patriots in 2006 to replace Adam Vinatieri and has developed into one of the NFL’s top kickers in New England.
Gostkowski, who is the Patriots’ all-time leading scorer, kicked 35 of 37 field goals in 2014 and has made the Pro Bowl on three occasions, including each of the past two seasons.
