Bobby Wagner has signed a four-year contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks that will make him the highest-paid middle linebacker in the NFL.
Seahawks owner Paul Allen used social media to confirm the $43m deal on Saturday night.
Wagner has been Seattle's starting middle linebacker since joining them as a second-round pick out of Utah State in the 2012 draft.
The 25-year-old had previously threatened to sit-out Seattle’s training camp after saying on Friday that his deadline for agreeing an extension was “now”.
"It's important to be recognised as one of the best,” Wagner said on the first day of training camp. "It's not up to me. I let the people who get paid to figure that out.
"My job is to go out there and make sure this defence is ran right and that it's the best defence. And it will be the best defence that you guys see on this field - again."
The deal continues a productive off-season for the Seahawks, who also agreed a four-year contract extension with star quarterback Russell Wilson earlier this week.
