Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr has announced he will retire at the end of the 2015 season.

Smith has compiled 13,262 career receiving yards and 73 touchdowns on 915 catches through his first 14 seasons in the league.

The 36-year-old was drafted in the third round by the Carolina Panthers in 2001 and has gone on to have a stellar NFL career despite early misgivings about his lack of height - Smith is only 5ft 9ins tall.

He was released by the Panthers before the 2014 campaign but went on to prove he could still compete at the top level by catching 79 passes for 1,065 yards and six touchdowns for the Ravens last season.

"I feel like this is the best place, if this is going to be the end, this will be the best place to end," Smith Sr said.
