Top Performers
Wow, what a debut from Cam Newton, with the top draft pick enjoying the best rookie quarterback debut performance on record with his 422-yard game for Carolina, despite them losing! Before you go grabbing for Cam though remember that this week he faces the champions Green Bay, so it may be best to sit the former Auburn star for this week.
Tom Brady then eclipsed Newton by throwing for 517 yards and four touchdowns as New England beat the Dolphins, but remarkably his opposite number Chad Henne actually scored one more point in our fantasy game, and is $2 million cheaper.
Running back Mike Tolbert topped the charts last week with his three scores, and if he's over a knee problem look for San Diego to aim for him again against New England, while Ray Rice and LeSean McCoy will continue where they left off last week.
Steve Smith was the star receiver as he grab most of Newton's passes, while both the Patriots' tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Grankowski has field days at the Dolphins' expense and Baltimore's defence proved to the top of the shop after dismantling Pittsburgh.
Week Two pick-ups
So then, on to week two, and who do you want in your team?
Quarterbacks
Star Men: If you want to blow you budget on the top men, then Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Don't expect another 500-yard day for Brady against the Chargers but still expect a solid showing - as with Rodgers as he faces Carolina, while Michael Vick plays in Atlanta for the first time so he will be keen to put in a huge performance.
Steer Clear: You'd save $2 million going for surprise packages Cam Newton or Chad Henne, but I'm not sold, especially given the rookie faces champions Green Bay this week, who are not the Arizona Cardinals, while the Dolphins face Houston.
Money Savers: Matt Stafford is still a $3m buy, but the Lions are the real deal this year and he has a home game versus the Chiefs, who made Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Bills look good each week. I never thought I'd say this but Rex Grossman could be the answer! 300+ yards and two TDs last week and a juicy home match-up with Arizona spell bargain points for $2m.
Running Backs
Star Men: Out of top seeds Ray Rice and LeSean McCoy I'd opt for the Raven, who is more a focus of his team's offence than McCoy but these two are a much safer bet than injury worry Arian Foster and the misfiring Adrian Peterson.
Steer Clear: Chris Johnson's week 1 disappearance was a worry, especially if you had him in another fantasy team (like me) and I'd wait and see before trusting him again, while Maurice Jones-Drew is normally a sound bet but a game at the Jets screams stay away to me.
Money Savers: Three TDs for San Diego's Mike Tolbert last week make him a must-have providing his knee holds up to face New England, while Cedric Benson also looks good for $2m after 18 points last week and a favourable match-up with Denver.
Receivers
Star Men: Calvin Johns should have another field day with Matthew Stafford flinging the ball as often as possible against the Chiefs, and Andre Johnson can benefit from Houston's Matt Schaub trying to emulate Tom Brady and shredding the Dolphins defence.
Steer Clear: Chiefs man Dwayne Bowe is a $4m man but with a struggling team and trip to Detroit he's best avoided. Reggie Wayne may not get as much thrown his way as the Colts will be in the game more against Cleveland. Don't expect repeat numbers from Tennessee's Kenny Britt either.
Money Savers: The Panthers could be chasing the game against the Packers so $2m on Steve Smith getting some production seems a good gamble, while $1m on Plaxico Burress is a bargain hard to turn down. Devery Henderson and Brandon Gibson could also help out those on a budget.
Best of the rest
Tight ends:Those riding the hot hand will pick up Buffalo's Scott Chandler after his 18-point haul last week, but it's hard to see lightning striking twice, and that same $1m can net you Washington's Fred Davis. Cincinnati's Jermaine Gresham is worth $2m but doubts over his QB would steer me in favour of New Orleans' Jimmy Graham, with him already a favourite of Drew Brees who is also down a receiver this week.
Defence:Let's make this simple - $1m gets you the Ravens, who swarmed all over the Steelers last week and will do the same to the Titans so look no further...
Kickers:David Akers has a trusty boot and the 49ers don't have the best offence so touchdowns may be at a premium against Dallas leaving field goals to keep the scoreboard ticking.
