The Miami Dolphins released Daunte Culpepper, following the signing of quarterback Trent Green from Kansas City Chiefs.
Injury-blighted quarterback 'relieved' to leave
The Miami Dolphins released Daunte Culpepper on Tuesday, one day before the NFL Players' Association planned to file a grievance on quarterback's behalf against them.
Culpepper, whose Miami career was blighted by injury, was disgruntled after the Dolphins traded with the Kansas City Chiefs for quarterback Trent Green.
However, Culpepper said in an e-mail to US media that he was relieved by the decision.
He said: "As I was going through this process I heard about a quote by Gandhi that best expresses my thoughts about this victory, 'First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win'.
"Now that I have won my freedom and I get to choose my next team, I am just like many other people who have to go out and find employment so that I can take care of my family."
The Jacksonville Jaguars are rumoured to be in the running for Culpepper's signature.
Meanwhile, Troy Brown has re-signed with the New England Patriots and will spend his 15th straight season with the franchise.
