Peterson signs with Vikings

Adrian Peterson has signed a five-year, $40.5 million contract with Minnesota.

Vikings' first pick signs but plenty of others are still holding out

Adrian Peterson, the Minnesota Vikings' first pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, has signed a five-year, $40.5 million contract. The deal, which includes $17 million in guaranteed salary, will see Peterson share backfield time with Chester Taylor, who rush for over 1,200 yards last year. Peterson was the star of the show at the Oklahoma Sooners, carrying for over 4,000 yards and running in 41 touchdowns. However, he has been somewhat injury prone - with key injuries to shoulder, thigh, ankle and collarbones in all of his years in college. In Washington, the Redskins signed safety LaRon Landry to a five-year contract that will guarantee the player $17.5 million in guaranteed bonuses. If it all goes to plan, that figure could rise to $41.5 million. Landry, who was the top defensive player taken in the draft, will play strong safety for the team with Sean Taylor playing out his role at free safety. However, seven players are still holding out for more money, including top pick JaMarcus Russell and the Detroit Lions' pick and #2 overall selection Calvin Johnson. Fifth pick Levi Brown is still in contract wrangling with the Arizona Cardinals, while Darrelle Revis is battling it out with the New York Jets. Brady Quinn, the surprise 22nd pick in the draft, is still in negotiations with the Cleveland Browns, and LSU wide receiving sensation - and 23rd overall pick - Dwayne Bowe has resolved issues with the Kansas City Chiefs. And the Carolina Panthers are discussing salaries with lineback Jon Beason.
