Seattle linebacker Bruce Irvin received a $10,000 (£6,500) fine for starting a scuffle at the end of Super Bowl XLIX as the National Football League hit four players involved in the melee in the pocket.

New England Patriots were trying to run down the clock after Malcolm Butler's win-sealing interception in Arizona on Sunday when tempers flared.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady attempted to take a knee with his team 28-24 up to let the clock run out when Irvin got into a shoving match with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Irvin was ejected from the contest before later apologising, but he still drew the heaviest fine of the quartet.

Seahawks team-mate Michael Bennett was fined $8,268 (£6,500), as were Gronkowski and fellow Patriots tight end Pat Michael Hoomanawanui.
