Pair of ex-Redskins lead the list heading into Canton

Wide receiver Art Monk was among the six new entrants to be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Monk was joined by cornerbacks Darrell Green and Emmitt Thomas, linebacker Andre Tippett, defensive end Fred Dean and tackle Gary Zimmerman. Monk finished his career with 940 receptions for 12,721 yards and 68 touchdowns but was overlooked for the Hall on eight occasions. He won the Super Bowl three times during his spell with the Washington Redskins. The three-time Pro Bowler also played for the New York Jets before finishing his 16-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Monk's former Redskins team-mate Green spent his entire 20-year career in Washington, registering 54 interceptions and returning six for touchdowns. Thomas was selected into the Hall by the Senior Committee after a 13-year career with the Kansas City Chiefs that saw him finish with 58 interceptions. Tippett spent 11 years with the New England Patriots, recording 100 sacks and earning five Pro Bowl selections. Dean was a Super Bowl winner in 1981 and 19894 with the San Francisco 49ers. He also spent seven seasons with the San Diego Chargers. Seven-time Pro Bowler Zimmerman played seven years with the Minnesota Vikings before moving onto the Denver Broncos from 1993 to 1997. Inductions will take place in Canton, Ohio on 2 August, the same date as the Pro Football Hall of Game.
