Dolphins defensive end fills injury void in Washington.
The Washington Redskins have taken on Miami Dolphins' defensive end Jason Taylor after losing Phillip Daniels to injury.
Daniels has been ruled out of the entire upcoming season due to a serious knee injury, so the Redskins have moved to bring in a top-class replacement.
The Redskins saw Daniels tear a knee ligament on the first day of their training camp, while fellow defensive end Alex Buzbee was also ruled out for the season with an Achilles tendon problem.
Six-time Pro Bowler Taylor has been chosen as the man to come in and fill the void and he became available after a fall-out of sorts with Dolphins chief Bill Parcells.
The Dolphins accepted a 2009 second-round pick and a 2010 sixth-round pick in trade for the 33-year-old.
"One of the more impressive accomplishments is that he has played over 90 percent of his possible playing time every year," Redskins official Vinny Cerrato told reporters.
"We had to act after losing our starting defensive end Phillip Daniels.
"I talked to (Dolphins vice president of football operations) Bill Parcells after practice today, and we were able to work something out."
Taylor has spent all of his 12 NFL season with the Dolphins and has been chosen six times for the Pro Bowl, but Parcells allowed him to leave after he appeared on TV show Dancing with the Stars instead of attending off-season training.
"Normally, there is nobody on the market of his calibre," added Cerrato.
"He is a six-time Pro Bowl player, and was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2006. The timing was right."
Taylor has made 453 tackles, 117 sacks and seven interceptions in his NFL career.
