Brett Favre finally arrived in New York on Thursday while the Jets announced the release of another quaterback, Chad Pennington.
Franchise release Pennington after arrival of three-time NFL MVP
Quarterback Brett Favre finally arrived in New York on Thursday as he was paraded to the media following his move from the Green Bay Packers.
The three-time NFL MVP agreed to move to the Big Apple late on Wednesday in a trade after it was originally thought he was heading for Tampa Bay.
Favre had retired back on March 4 but then decided to reverse his decision, applying for reinstatement as a player.
That move left the Packers, who had already confirmed Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback, looking to move the 38-year-old who led the franchise to victory in Super Bowl XXXI.
New chapter
Eventually a deal was struck with the Jets, and Favre is now looking forward to beginning a new chapter in his storied career.
"The last 24 hours have been crazy," Favre said during a news conference prior to the Jets' pre-season game against the Cleveland Browns.
"I'm here for one reason. Not to do commercials, Broadway, all those things. I'm here to help the Jets win."
Favre watched on as the Jets began their pre-season campaign with a 24-20 win over the Browns.
Reserve quarterback Brett Ratliff tossed a pair of touchdown passes to wide receiver David Clowney, who finished the game with four receptions for 163 yards.
Pennington released
With one quarterback coming in another has left after the Jets announced they had released Chad Pennington.
The 18th overall selection in the 2000 NFL entry draft, Pennington led the team to the post-season three times and is their all-time leader in completion percentage and passer rating.
