Falcons' flying start

KC gives his Week One picks. Big up to the Atlanta Falcons, Roscoe Parish and Matt Forte.

Atlanta amaze, Forte fronts up and Roscoe runs riot

Week One threw up more than the odd surprise as the NFL returned to our screens on Sky Sports. There were wins for the Falcons and the Bears, and poor old Tom Brady was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Brett Favre slipped into the old routine with a new team, while the Steelers and the Eagles won big and the Panthers pounced in the dying seconds to stun the Chargers. But who did Kevin Cadle like last weekend? Sky Sports football frontman gives you his picks of week one...

Team of the week - Atlanta Falcons

It has to be the Atlanta Falcons. They had a rookie quarterback in Matt Ryan trying to establish himself, he played very well on his debut, Michael Turner ran very well and their defence played well. You gotta give the Falcons respect because they started the season the way they could have only hoped to start it - they did a good job. They're not gonna win a whole lot of games, but it was good for them to play that way, get that hope of what they can do.

Player of the week - Matt Forte

Where was that Chicago offence gonna come from against the Colts? They were no-hopers going into the the game and he was the first rookie running back the Bears have had since 1975 and a certain Walter Payton. But he came in and did a job, especially when you look at the running back they had last year, Cedric Benson, and all the money they wasted on him. For him to come through from a smaller type school and get the job done was great. He has good feet, nice speed and we saw him run away from a couple of guys when he got through that defensive line. He's a good solid back, while nothing great, but does everything very well.

Play of the week - Roscoe Parish's 65-yard kick-off return

Roscoe has been with the Bills for four years now and last year he led the NFL on punt returns. People talk about Devin Hester at Chicago and he will explode, but he gets his stuff off of kick-offs rather than punt returns. Parish is a decent receiver and I think we will see him a lot as a receiver. I think later in the season we will see a lot more returners coming into play because people will know if they can get them the ball in open field and there's not a whole bunch of guys coming at them at 100mph, they can make things happen. The Parish return was a great job, but that's typical Bills special teams, they've been doing that for years.

Villain of the week - Ed Johnson

Ed Johnson, the Colts defensive tackle, was very fortunate to be in the NFL as it is. There were a couple of bad previews about him coming out of Penn State, about him being a party animal. He goes undrafted - he should have been a first-day draft choice - and somehow winds up at Indianapolis in the starting line-up as a rookie. And then on Monday, 24 hours after a loss to the Bears, they catch him speeding down the freeway and they find marijuana on him. Now his NFL career could be over. Not so much a villain of the week, more a damn fool of the week. Do you agree with KC? Send us your team, player, play and villain of the week using the feedback box below...
