Scott Linehan has been sacked as head coach of the St Louis Rams following an 0-4 start to the season.

Rams owner acts after four straight defeats

Scott Linehan has been sacked as head coach of the St Louis Rams. Linehan paid the price for a 0-4 start to the season during which the Rams were outscored 147-43. The 45-year-old spent just over two seasons in charge but could only manage a disappointing 11-25 record. Owner Chip Rosenbloom made the move with a "heavy heart" following Sunday's 31-14 defeat to the Buffalo Bills. "I have enormous respect for Scott Linehan as a person and believe under the right circumstances he will be regarded one day as a fine head coach," Rosenbloom said in a statement. "Unfortunately, the situation with the Rams as they exist today is no longer acceptable and we have to make a change." Linehan's defensive co-ordinator Jim Haslett will take over as interim coach. Haslett, 51, spent six seasons as head coach of the New Orleans Saints and joined the Rams' coaching staff in 2006. "By appointing the well-respected Jim Haslett as our head coach, we are making an interim move that we hope will make the Rams winners again," added Rosenbloom.
