Newly signed QB could be thrown in against Jacksonville
Veteran quarterback Daunte Culpepper could start for the winless Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Culpepper, 31, came out of retirement and signed a two-year contract with the 0-8 Lions on Tuesday, and was immediately taking practice snaps.
Dan Orlovsky has started the last four games under centre after first-choice Jon Kitna was placed on injured reserve.
But he is struggling to be fit for the Jacksonville Jaguars' visit to Ford Field due to a right hand injury.
Should Orlovsky be ruled out, head coach Rod Marinelli must choose between Drew Stanton - a second-round draft pick in 2007 - and Culpepper.
Culpepper went to three Pro Bowls during his time with the Minnesota Vikings but his career stalled following two right knee reconstructions in 2005 and 2006.
He had unsuccessful stints with the Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders before opting to retire prior to the 2008 season.
