New coach keen to keep former Green Bay Packer in New York
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is keen to see veteran quarterback Brett Favre delay his retirement.
The 39-year-old is once again mulling over his future following the Jets' late-season collapse under the guidance of Eric Mangini.
Former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Ryan's appointment is set to shake things up at Giants Stadium though and his first port of call may well be try and convince Favre to stay on.
"Brett Favre is a tremendous player," Ryan said. "I got whiplash coaching against him, watching him go up and down the field.
"I know the kind of talent he has and the kind of competitor he is. I think anybody would want a player like that on his team.
"This team won nine football games last season. This is a good football team. There really doesn't have to be a drastic change. But I think you may see a drastic change in the style of play, in particular on defence.
"We're not going to read and react, that is for somebody else. We're going to attack from the whistle. We're going to turn the heat up and let the fur fly and see what happens."
Favre and San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers have withdrawn from the Pro Bowl meanwhile, due to injuries.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Kerry Collins is now set to join Indianapolis' Peyton Manning and Denver's Jay Cutler on the AFC's Pro Bowl roster for the February 8 game instead.
