New Jets boss Ryan brings in familiar face at start of free agency

Baltimore's hopes of keeping Bart Scott have been dashed after the linebacker decided to sign for the New York Jets. The deal, reported to be for six years, means Scott will be re-united with Rex Ryan, his former defensive coordinator with the Ravens who is now head coach of the Jets. The 28-year-old has only previsouly played for Baltimore in the NFL after going undrafted in 2002. In that time he has recorded 433 tackles and 16 sacks and in 2006 he was named to the Pro Bowl and was an All-Pro selection.

Key factor

Scott admitted working again with Ryan, who has taken over from Eric Mangini in charge of the Jets, was a key factor in deciding where to sign. "The opportunity to play under coach Ryan again was huge," Scott said in a statement. "I wanted to keep that chemistry going. It's been so successful that I didn't want to lose that magic." Ryan is now looking to raid his former employers again with cornerback Corey Ivy and safety Jim Leonhard visiting the Jets in the coming days. The loss of Scott is a major blow for the Ravens. They will now focus their efforts on retaining the services of linebacker Ray Lewis, who is also a free agent. However, there has been one new arrival in Baltimore with cornerback Domonique Foxworth, who started 10 games last season with the Atlanta Falcons, joining the franchise.
