Foote returns to Pittsburgh, Aussie gets Packers chance
Linebacker Larry Foote has returned to the Pittsburgh Steelers on a three-year, $9 million deal, while the Green Bay Packers took a punt on Australian Rules footballer Chris Bryan.
Foote played for the Steelers in their last two Super Bowl victories in 2005 and 2008 after originally being drafted in the fourth round in 2002.
The nine-year veteran started every game from 2004-08 but left last year to join his hometown team Detroit on a one-year deal.
After leading the Lions in tackles the Steelers have moved to bring him back to Heinz Field and Foote signed a three-year deal to bolster Mike Tomlin's team, who strangely struggled on defence at the end of last season.
Bell tolls for Saints
Running back
Mike Bell could be leaving Super Bowl champions New Orleans after he signed an offer sheet from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bell agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.7 million with the Eagles, and the Saints now have a week to match that offer or allow Bell to leave without compensation.
The Eagles need an experienced back to compliment second-year man LeSean McCoy after letting Brian Westbrook leave, and they have targeted four-year pro Bell as their man.
Bell performed well when stepping in for Pierre Thomas during his injury, but he fell behind both Thomas and Reggie Bush as the season wore on.
He is also due a whopping $8 million next season so the Saints will probably look to cut their losses.
The Packers went further afield to help solve their punting problems of last year, as they brought in former Carlton and Collingwood star
Chris Bryan from the AFL in Australia.
The 28-year-old left-footer will hopefully provide a settled option for the Packers who have struggled for consistency with their punters of the last few seasons.
