Fifth round draft pick completes move to Bills
Offensive lineman Ed Wang has signed a four-year deal with the Buffalo Bills after they made him the first player of full Chinese descent to be selected in the NFL draft.
The 23-year-old was the 140th overall selection in last month's draft and was taken by the Bills in the fifth round.
He has now become the first of their nine selections to put pen to paper on professional terms and is delighted to have secured his future.
"Just to get it all out of the way and show that I'm really here to focus on football that was my whole point," Wang told the franchise's official website.
"I'm really happy. So now I can really just focus on football and do what I have to do on the field."
Wang is the son of former Chinese Olympic athletes who emigrated from China to America in the 1980s and both parents, Robert and Nancy, were present as he signed his contract.
"It was very important," he continued. "My family means everything to me so it's just great to have them up here and be with me and share this moment."
However, Wang faces stiff competition if he is to secure regular playing time in the upcoming season with the likes of Demetrius Bell and Jamon Meredith already on the books.
But he insisted he was looking forward to the challenge, adding: "You've got better players in there now so it's more competition. It's a great opportunity for me right now so I'm just trying to take advantage of it."
