Former Rams QB joins Baltimore as back-up and mentor
Veteran quarterback Marc Bulger has signed for the Baltimore Ravens as an experienced back-up to Joe Flacco.
33-year-old Bulger joins from the St Louis Rams on a one-year contract worth $3.8 million and will help provide a mentor for Flacco as well as a viable starter should the regular triggerman get injured.
Two-time Pro Bowler Bulger will need to pass a physical before the deal is completed - and he will hope that goes well after injuries limited him to just nine games last season.
Bulger was placed on injured reserve by the Rams on Boxing Day last year after suffering a fracture shin bone, but he is now back to full fitness.
Flacco will start his third year in Baltimore this year and has started every game of his first two seasons in the NFL, but Bulger will offer some experienced cover.
Experience
The Ravens only have John Beck and Troy Smith as quarterback cover, who have a combined six starts between them, while Bulger has 95 starts in his nine-year career.
Bulger had spent all of his career to date with the Rams, taking over from Kurt Warner in 2003 and throwing for 22,814 yards with 122 touchdowns and 93 interceptions.
Bulger went to the Pro Bowl in 2004 and 2006, when he threw for over 4,000 yards, but injuries have limited him in recent years.
As the Rams have also slumped, they plumped for Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford with their number one overall pick at this yea's draft, and see him as the man for the future.
Bulger had been due $8.5 million in salary for 2010 but the Rams released him in April to clear the way for Bradford, and now the veteran hopes to make an impact in Baltimore.
