Rookie quarterback has chance to claim Panthers starting role

The Carolina Panthers have agreed terms with their top draft pick Jimmy Clausen, setting the stage for a quarterback battle at training camp. Clausen, the 48th overall selection out of Notre Dame, faces competition from Matt Moore and Hunter Cantwell to be the top signal caller on Carolina's depth chart. The Panthers released long-time starting quarterback Jake Delhomme after missing out on the play-offs last season. Details of Clausen's contract were not released but local media reported it was a four-year agreement worth up to $6.3 million. The Panthers' training camp starts on July 28 and Clausen's signature means they have no hold-outs among their 10 rookies.
