Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick looks set to miss at least one game with damaged rib cartilage.

QB expects to sit out at one, possibly two, weeks with rib problem

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick looks set to miss at least one game with damaged rib cartilage. Vick suffered the injury during the Eagles' 17-12 defeat to the Washington Redskins on October 3. He told Virginia Beach's WXTG Radio 102.1 that he expects to be sidelined for "maybe a week, maybe two weeks". That means he is likely sidelined for the October 10 trip to the San Francisco 49ers and, possibly, the home match on October 17 against the Atlanta Falcons, his former employers. Kevin Kolb, who lost the starting job after being injured on the opening day of the season, will deputise until Vick regains fitness.

Portis scan

Meanwhile, Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis is also doubtful for week five. Portis is awaiting the results of an MRI scan on a groin injury. There was better news concerning Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, with initial indications suggesting he will have recovered from concussion in time to face the Carolina Panthers on October 10. Cutler was sacked nine times in the first half of his side's 17-3 week four defeat to the New York Giants before being forced to leave the field as the Bears suffered their first loss of the season. One player who will not be returning for some time is Indianapolis Colts safety Melvin Bullitt. Bullitt broke a bone in his shoulder during the Colts' 31-28 defeat to Jacksonville Jaguars in week four and, as he requires surgery, is sure to be placed on season-ending injured reserve.
