The Dallas Cowboys will head into Week Eight with the best record in the NFL after securing a 31-21 victory against the New York Giants at AT&T Stadium.

Running back DeMarco Murray made NFL history by becoming the first player to open a season with seven straight 100-yard rushing games in a relatively straightforward win which improves Dallas’ record to 6-1.

Murray rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown against the Giants (3-4), who led 14-7 in the second quarter before being overpowered after the half-time interval.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo opened the scoring by capping a 76-yard drive with a touchdown pass to Gavin Escobar, but the Giants responded as Eli Manning threw touchdowns to Odell Beckham and Daniel Fells.

Romo connected with Terrance Williams to tie things up before half-time and after the break found Escobar again to give Dallas the lead.

With Dez Bryant (151 receiving yards) coming alive in the second half, Dallas continued to surge forward and extended the advantage with a one-yard run from Murray.

Manning found Beckham again to reduce the deficit but a Dan Bailey field goal inside the final minute made sure of the win.

Only three other teams in the NFL have one loss against their name and they have all taken bye weeks, meaning no team can match Dallas' tally of six wins before the next round of games.

Chargers lose

The San Diego Chargers lost for the first time since the opening weekend of the season as the Kansas City Chiefs clinched a 23-20 win at Qualcomm Stadium.

The Chiefs (3-3) continued their recent resurgence with a victory which was sealed when rookie kicker Cairo Santos hit a 48-yard field goal with 21 seconds remaining.

The contest was tight throughout, with Philip Rivers throwing two touchdown passes for the Chargers (5-2) and Alex Smith slinging one for Kansas City. Jamaal Charles rushed in the Chiefs’ other touchdown.

And in the end it came down to Santos’ late kick, which he threaded just inside the right upright before the Chiefs intercepted Rivers to ice the game.

Carson Palmer threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns as the Arizona Cardinals defeated the Oakland Raiders 24-13 at O.co Coliseum.

Michael Floyd and Stepfan Taylor caught the scores to put the visitors 14-0 up before Oakland (0-6) hit back with a Darren McFadden rushing touchdown and two field goals from Sebastian Janikowski.

But Taylor then ran in another score for Arizona (5-1) and Chandler Catanzaro made a 41-yard field goal late on to wrap up the win.
