Fiji Rugby officials have confirmed Ben Ryan has left his role as head coach of the rugby sevens side.
The Englishman made history by leading Fiji to their first Olympic gold, in which they defeated Great Britain 43-7 in the final of the Sevens tournament.
Since returning to Fiji, Ryan's achievements as coach have been celebrated, with the 44-year-old receiving three acres of land and being named as a chief in the Serau province, where he has lived for the last three years.
However, despite pressure to remain in charge, Ryan has decided to move on and his position will now be advertised.
The Fiji Rugby Union chief executive, John O'Connor said: "The discussions with Ben indicate his desire to take a break from rugby by returning home to England and to explore options for his future undertaking."
O'Connor also added the Fiji Rugby officials would have been glad to renew Ryan's contract, but they respect his decision to not continue his role.
