Russian hammer thrower Tatyana Lysenko has been stripped of her 2012 Olympic title after a positive doping re-test.

Lysenko's retrospectively retested sample from the London Games showed up traces of prohibited substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol), according to a statement from the International Olympic Committee.

The 2011 and 2013 world champion, now known by her married name of Beloborodova, was banned earlier this year by the IAAF for an unspecified doping offence and previously served a two-year suspension between 2007 and 2009.

Lysenko won gold in London ahead of Poland's Anita Wlodarczyk, who went on to become champion at the Rio de Janeiro Games this summer.

Wlodarczyk stands to win a second career gold in the wake of Lysenko's disqualification.

The IOC began re-testing "targeted samples" from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics in the run-up to Rio "to provide a level playing field for all clean athletes at the Olympic Games 2016."
