Brit secures first podium finish in World Triathlon Championship Series
Will Clarke claimed his first podium finish in the World Triathlon Championship Series as he finished second behind Brad Kahlefeldt in Hamburg.
Clarke recorded the best result of his career and only just missed out on the gold medal when he finished a second behind the Australian winner.
"I've been dreaming about this for so long. I feel absolutely delighted. I've been hoping for this moment for years and now it's happened. I'm over the moon," Clarke said.
Clarke, whose Great Britain team-mate and series leader Alistair Brownlee was absent as he prepares for the London leg, led in the final kilometre of the run after overtaking world champion Javier Gomez.
However, he was beaten in the sprint for the line by Kahlefeldt, while fellow Britons Tim Don and Todd Leckie finished seventh and 32nd respectively.
After the swim, Clarke and Don made it into a pack of 20 athletes on the bike and it was a large group which rolled into the second transition before the 10km run.
Jan Frodeno, the Olympic champion and home favourite, was forced out of contention after a problem with his wheel on the final bike lap.
A group of eight, including Clarke, surged into a lead with Gomez, but it was Clarke and Kahlefeldt that gained control of the race as Gomez fell away.
Clarke was in the lead with Kahlefeldt and Frenchman David Hauss on his shoulders. Clarke looked back as they reached the finishing carpet and Kahlefeldt made his sprint for victory.
