Beth Tweddle: British Gymnastics have turned to her coach Amanda Reddin to drive the sport forward

Reddin, who coached Tweddle to European, world and Olympic success across four cycles as well as having competed at the 1984 Games, has been appointed as head coach for the women's artistic gymnastics programme.

She succeeds Adrian Stan, former technical director, who is taking charge of high-performance coach development.

When she takes up the post on November 1, her first job will be to assemble a coaching team for the 2013 European Championships in Moscow in April.

Reddin, who has been a Team GB coach at four Olympic Games, said: "I'm excited to take on the challenge of continuing the great legacy left by Adrian Stan."

As coach at the City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club, Reddin led the club to multiple British team titles. She also developed gymnasts such as Tweddle, Jennifer Pinches, Hannah Whelan, Aisling Williams and Emma Williams to compete at world level for Great Britain.

Tim Jones, British Gymnastics Olympic performance director, added: "Amanda's knowledge of the system that had been put in place to put our British programme in the top tier of the world is second to none but she also has a clear vision of the direction we now need to move forward in order to challenge for Olympic medals on a regular basis."
