As the first man to carry the Olympic Flame when it arrived in Britain this week, Ben Ainslie believes that the country is beginning to feel the buzz ahead of this summer's mega event.
The 35-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere down in Lands End in Cornwall was really electric."
The three-time Olympic gold medallist was the first of 8,000 torchbearers who are due to carry the Olympic Torch around Britain.
The final destination will be the Olympic Stadium in late July in time for the opening ceremony.
Honour
In recent news, it has emerged that people are selling their torches on internet sites, with one selling on eBay for £153,100 - one day after the torch relay's first leg.
The sailing star believes the move to be a "little bit opportunistic," saying that for him, carrying the torch was an enormous honour.
"In my personal experience, it is a huge honour to get the chance to be involved with the Olympics and for the torch to go around the country," he added.
"My torch I will hold on to forever. It was a very special opportunity and moment."
Ainslie's preparations for London are going well, with a Finn gold medal at the World Championships last week proving that he is well on course for a successful summer.
