Great Britain forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu has been released from his new contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv without playing a game due to a knee injury suffered during the Olympics.
The team announced on Wednesday that tests on Mensah-Bonsu's knee found the problem was more serious than first thought.
The 29-year-old former NBA player, who missed Britain's final game and only win of the Olympics against China, had agreed the deal with Maccabi during the Games.
Maccabi said in a statement: "Although we had wanted to see Pops wearing yellow this season, his rehabilitation period will be longer than expected and the medical tests have led to this decision.
"With the understanding of the players and his agent, and in accordance with the terms of his contract, the player has been released."
