The Ricoh Arena, the home of Championship side Coventry City, was not originally chosen as an Olympic venue.
London 2012 had earmarked Villa Park in Birmingham as its Midlands ground but it was withdrawn in August 2009 because of uncertainty over rebuilding plans.
The Ricoh Arena was chosen as its replacement in June 2010, although it will be renamed the City of Coventry Stadium because of Olympic rules on sponsorship.
It will play host to 12 football matches during the 2012 Games, including the women's Bronze medal match.
Coventry will be one of six Olympic football venues, the others being Wembley, the Millennium Stadium, Hampden Park, Old Trafford and St James' Park.
