Castleford have the opportunity to move to within a point of fifth-placed Catalans Dragons when they host struggling Wakefield on Friday.
The Tigers have given up hope of a semi-final spot but coach Daryl Powell is hoping they can maintain their late-season improvement to set the platform for a Grand-Final assault in 2017.
"So far in the Super 8s we have taken on the top-three teams and been ultra-competitive in every one of those games, winning two and losing out in the most frustrating of circumstances in the last one," said Powell.
"We weren't quite at our attacking best against Warrington but the durability of the team is building all the time, particularly in our defensive game which has been most pleasing."
Castleford coach Daryl Powell makes just one change to the team that lost at Warrington in their match, Jake Webster taking the place of the injured Frankie Mariano after regaining full fitness.
Wakefield are boosted by the return of leading tryscorer Tom Johnstone, as well as experienced forwards Anthony Tupou, Scott Anderson and Mickael Simon.
Jordan Crowther is also back, with Ben Jones-Bishop, Mikey Sio, Jason Walton, David Fifita and James Batchelor dropping out of the side that lost at Widnes.
Castleford Tigers: Rangi Chase, Matt Cook, Ben Crooks, Luke Dorn, Paddy Flynn, Luke Gale, Ryan Hampshire, Oliver Holmes, Will Maher, Paul McShane, Grant Millington, Adam Milner, Greg Minikin, Junior Moors, Larne Patrick, Andre Savelio, Denny Solomona, Gadwin Springer, Jake Webster.
Wakefield Wildcats: Scott Anderson, Tinirau Arona, Joe Arundel, Matty Ashurst, Jordan Crowther, Liam Finn, Craig Hall, Ben Harrison, Tom Johnstone, Max Jowitt, Reece Lyne, Jacob Miller, Jonny Molloy, Scott Moore, Nick Scruton, Mickael Simon, Anthony Tupou, Bill Tupou, Andy Yates.
