Widnes Vikings winger Stefan Marsh will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in their 8-6 win over Wigan.

The 26-year-old damaged his knee in the opening stages of the victory over Wigan on Thursday but still saw out the rest of the game and even made a try-saving tackle near the end while his team were down to 11 men.

Vikings coach Denis Betts praised Marsh's performance but admitted the injury could see the player ruled out long-term.

"I think that Stef's performance, and in particular that tackle, epitomised the team's attitude," said Betts.

"We're still waiting for some feedback from specialists to determine the extent of the injury and that could mean he requires surgery."

Widnes' next fixture sees them travel to Warrington Wolves on September 9, and Vikings confirmed Patrick Ah Van will be back to boost Betts' options for the fixture.
