Leigh Centurions have signed centre Willie Tonga after agreeing a deal with the Catalans Dragons.

Tonga's signing - on a two-year contract - continues an aggressive off-season of recruitment for the ambitious Kingstone Press Championship club, who have already signed former Man of Steel Rangi Chase.

Centurions have also brought in Salford forwards Harrison Hansen, Cory Paterson and Reni Maitua - a close friend of Tonga's - as they look to secure a place in the top division in 2017.

Head coach Paul Rowley said: " I am delighted to welcome Willie to the club and am excited to see him get down to work. The opportunity to sign Willie comes after a very rigorous search for another outside back and so to finally land a player of Willie's quality is very pleasing.

"This is another positive step in the progression of our club and another great professional athlete joining the ranks to help enhance the culture and work ethic within the club."

Former Australia international Tonga, 32, spent a single season with the Perpignan-based Dragons, scoring six tries in a total of 18 Super League appearances.

Dragons chief executive officer Christophe Jouffret said: "We are satisfied to have reached an agreement with Leigh for the transfer of Willie Tonga, who had one more year on his contract with us.
